M-learning or mobile learning refers to the deployment of training programmes on wireless handheld devices, like cell phones and personal digital assistants.

What was it?

• The I-Msg was a first of its kind service on mobile for Management        exam takers at a national level.
• A simple interface enabled users to send keyword, JOIN CAT to 55454 to register for the service.
 • Post CAT exam, registered users had to send their Question paper    series (1111, 2222, 3333 or 4444) to receive the correct answers.

What we  did?

• We created an SMS interface to give registered students the correct answers to the CAT exam.
• We also took it upon us to get directly in touch with the students. We undertook a direct campaign in 2 cities to gather response:

   Pune 5 Centres:
   * Modern College of Engineering Shivaji Nagar
   * Garware College of Commerce Deccan
   * AISSMS College of Engineering Sohrab Hall
   * Pune Science and Arts College Camp
   * New English School Sadashivpeth

   Mumbai- 7 centres:
    * K.C. College,Churchgate
   * S.I.E.S College of Arts, Science & Commerce Sion-West
   * G.N. Khalsa College of Arts, Commerce & Science Kings Circle, Matunga
   * Thakur College of Engineering &Technology Thakur Village, Kandivli-E
   * Thakur Polytechnic Thakur Complex, Kandivli-E
   * King George School Hindu Colony, Dadar (E)
   * MMK Bandra (W)

Who held hands with us?
• The answers to the exam were provided by experts from our partner, IMS.
• The service was launched with Airtel and Vodafone, across India.
• OnMobile Technologies provided the technical/marketing support.

Outcome! / Learnings!
• We captured 2% of the total market with just a day of promotions!
• There is a definite need for similar services. Students requested for the service to be made available for other exams.
• Priced at Rs. 30/-, students felt the service could have been priced better.
• Students using connections other than Airtel & Vodafone, were disappointed at not having access to the service.
• Students also wanted other details related to the exam like cut-offs etc.

What’s next?
Management students taking the XAT exam in January 2008 and the Mh-CET in March can also expect a similar service.
